VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police are looking for a gunman who stormed into a gas station and robbed it Thursday morning.

The surveillance cameras were rolling at the Raceway Gas Station in Valdosta when a man armed with a gun stormed in and demanded cash. The suspect covered his face with a white bandana and wore gloves. He's a heavyset black man, about 6'2.

"He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, and left in an unknown direction. We had crime scene personnel and detectives that responded, processing evidence. At this time, any leads we can get we'd be glad to listen," said VPD Commander of Investigations, Leslie Manahan.

The store clerk was not harmed. But the suspect made him get down on the ground as he walked out the door. After he was gone he sat up and prayed.

"He's doing good so far that I know, he's just thanking god that he's alive. And we're glad he's okay and he's not hurt," said co-worker Ladonna Cruz.

Cruz says she hopes the owners will consider taking new security measures. "If he's going to keep it a 24 hour store, he needs to lock the doors after midnight. That way the cashier can just do it right here by this little window."

This gas station was also robbed in November. Two men got away with about $9,000. They still have not been caught.

Police hope some crime scene evidence will help them catch this crook.

"We'll have some evidence that's being processed at the crime lab. Hopefully that will produce a suspect for us," said Manahan.

The man ran off. The k-9 unit was not able to track his scent.

If you have any information on this armed robbery Valdosta Police ask you to call them at 229-293-3145.
