WG&L Approves budget with higher fees

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Water Gas and Light customers will see an increase on their water bill, and other rate hikes will depend on mother nature.

This morning the WG&L board approved the utilities $127 million budget for 2013-2014. It's a nearly $5 million increase from last year's budget.

Water rates will go up 3.5%. Gas and electricity rates are anticipated to increase 3% and 5% respectively.

However that increase depends on how warm a summer or mild a winter we get.

"These are tentative increases that will only be necessary if the weather is milder that what we have budgeted for. Except for the water that will be separate," said WG&L Finance Director John Vansant.

Other increases include a $2 charge for credit card payments and $15 late fee charge. That is up from $6.00.
