Friends and family of a talented young south Georgia woman gathered tonight to wish her well as she competes for the Miss Georgia crown. There was a large turnout at a sendoff party tonight at the home of Carly Mathis. She's the reigning Miss Atlanta.

She nearly won the title last year and says she's pushing herself to perform even better this year.

"Last year I was the first runner up and so this year I want to move forward I don't want to move backwards so I have just tried my best to better myself as much as I can i'm singing a new song this year at miss georgia I wanted to push myself a little bit so i'm excited about it," Carly Mathis, Miss Atlanta.

The song she'll be singing is "I know you won't" by Carrie Underwood. This year's pageant runs from next Wednesday through next Saturday in Columbus.
