Clemons to head Brooks schools

QUITMAN, GA (WALB) -

The Brooks County School system has a new superintendent. Owen Clemons was the sole finalist for the position and was voted into office Tuesday by the Brooks County Board of Education.

Clemons served as interim superintendent after former superintendent Debra Folsom retired. He's the first African American to hold the position for Brooks County Schools.

Clemons has been with the system for more than 20 years. "He exhibits a lot of great qualities in leadership and his rapport with the community and the school system. So it was a perfect fit for our school system," said Brooks Co. Schools Spokeswoman Sharah Denton.

Clemons started his career as a science teacher in Lowndes County. He also served as an Assistant Principal at Lee County High School.
