TripAdvisor names Atlanta among least expensive cities to visit

Travel website TripAdvisor has released its most and least expensive cities in the U.S., placing Atlanta, GA in the top five ranking for least expensive travel cost.

The survey, called TripIndex, compares the cost of a hotel stay, cocktail, two course dinner with a bottle of wine, and round-trip taxi fares in each city.

The most expensive U.S. cities include:
1. Honolulu, HI
2. New York City, NY
3. Boston, MA
4. San Francisco, CA
5. Chicago, IL

The least expensive U.S. cities include:
1. Las Vegas, NV
2. Miami, FL
3. Dallas, TX
4. Atlanta, GA
5. Portland, OR

Other statistics from TripIndex Cities include:

Average nightly rate for a 4-star hotel has risen 18% since summer 2012

Oslo, Norway is the costliest global city, and Sofia, Bulgaria is the best bargain internationally

Orlando, FL has the largest increase in hotel prices up 33% from last year, followed by Denver, CO with a 32% increase

The South is the most affordable region in the nation, and Asia is the most affordable internationally

Travelers can spend 1 night in a Honolulu hotel or 3 nights in a Las Vegas hotel for the same price

    An Albany nonprofit is working to address underage drinking.  South Georgia Starz Academy has gotten a mental block grant, through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration or SAMHSA.
