Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A Valdosta man is recovering in the hospital after he tried running from police during a traffic stop.

Valdosta Police stopped 35-year-old Barry Daise around 12:30 Monday morning at the MK Food Mart after an officer smelled marijuana coming from his car. Officers searched Daise's car and found marijuana and a stolen handgun. Daise took off running but didn't get far.

"When he was running he fell in a hole or stepped in a hole and injured himself. So the officers are going to take out warrants on him for the charges," said Lt. Aaron Kirk, Valdosta Police Department.

Daise will be charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, obstruction, and possession of marijuana.
