Public and state parks going private in cost-cutting move

Posted: Updated:

Three state parks in South Georgia are among five around the state that will soon be completely managed by private, for-profit firms.

The list includes Georgia Veterans State Park in Cordele, Bagby State Park in Fort Gaines, and Little Ocmulgee State Park in Helena.

Officials say the move is a financial necessity and could result in charges for services that are currently free.

Other parks that will be privatized are Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville and Unicoi near Helen.
