Knights star on Saturday, sweep Brookwood to reach State Championship

After Friday's game one loss to Brookwood, the Deerfield Windsor baseball team just couldn't wait until Saturday to get back on the diamond.  The Knights sweep the Warriors on Saturday to reach the GISA AAA State Championship.

The bats started hot and never relented in game one as Deerfield powered to an 11-1 victory behind the arm of senior Weston King.  Game two was much more dramatic.  Brookwood pulled within one run in the 5th inning to cut the Deerfield lead to 4-3 but the Knights were able to add two more insurance runs in the 6th to come away with the 6-3 victory.

"It feels great to struggle so much during the season and come out and have such a solid playoff. We struggled yesterday. It just wasn't what we wanted to do. It feels great to come out and sweep today and head to a state championship," said senior center fielder Davis Hines.

Deerfield head coach Rod Murray added "We know we needed our time cards today and play all day long and the kids never blinked.  They responded and we got it done today against a fine Brookwood team."

Deerfield will play at Tattnall Square in Macon for the AAA State Championship starting with game one on Friday at 6 p.m. A possible double header will follow on Saturday.
