OK tornado victim stops in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Thursday night an Oklahoma tornado victim making her way to Florida stopped in Valdosta after she heard on the radio the American Red Cross was fundraising in the streets.

Red Cross volunteers set up donation centers across Valdosta today collecting money for Oklahoma victims.

Heather Cearley experienced the first day of tornadoes in Newalla Oklahoma. She stopped by Super Suds on Gornto Road to say thank you to south Georgians for helping the tornado victims. She says she and her family survived after they took cover in her neighbor's tornado shelter. Once the tornado passed she says the town she once knew was unrecognizable; her home survived but many others weren't as fortunate.

"There was power lines down over houses, there was people hurt, there was people crying, there was people literally on their knees praying, you know because their families were hurt," said Cearley .

Cearley says people in Oklahoma need everything right now -- from bug spray to horse feed. If you would like to donate to the Red Cross CLICK HERE.
