Two men suspected of early morning smash and grabs

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Police believe two men are behind a smash and grab and a break in at two convenience stores within four miles of each other.

The first smash and grab happened around 2:20 am at the Pit Stop convenience store at 3225 Sylvester road.

Then just a half hour later, closer to 3 am, the police believe the same two men smashed the glass door with a cinder block at the Stop and Shop at 700 Cordele Road.

The Pit Stop store owner has surveillance footage of two black males with masks using another cement block to break in the door. The block didn't break the window on first try, so one of the men used his shoulder to ram into the door, knocking the Plexiglas out of the door frame.

Once they entered, the two men then quickly jumped over the counter and grabbed several cartons of cigarettes and a cash drawer.

The owner of the pit stop says there was only change in that drawer, but police are still investigating how much money and cigarettes were taken.

Finger prints were also found on the door at the Pit Stop and police are gathering those for the investigation.

Police believe nothing was taken from the Stop and Shop.
