A Dougherty high track star is keeping her talents close to home.
Quannesha Gatling was the 2013 Region 1-AAAA champion in the 400m dash, long jump, and triple jump.
Next season, she will compete in all three events for the Albany State Golden Rams, after signing her letter of intent Wednesday.
Gatling was also a standout for the Lady Trojan basketball, softball, and cross country teams, and says she initially was aiming for a basketball scholarship.
But she changed her mind at the 2013 State Track Meet earlier this month.
"It all changed when the state meet came this year and I started crying because I did not get far in the triple jump, and that's when I realized, 'Oh my God, I think I love track,'" she laughs. "I cried over basketball games, but I didn't 'boo hoo' cry. But when I 'boo hoo' cried and I was like, 'Oh my God, I love this sport and this is what I need to do.'"
But Gatling says she isn't opposed to also playing basketball for the Lady Rams as well.
"I would consider playing basketball for Albany State," Gatling says. "If [Head Women's Basketball] Coach [Robert] Skinner wants me to play, I would play, but I will mainly be focusing on track, because that's what I'm going to Albany State for."
Gatling says she wants to major in math or education, and become a teacher and coach after graduation.
