Health leaders gathered Tuesday at Chehaw Park to educate pediatricians about the concerns many parents have about getting children vaccinated. The theme of the Building Bridges conference was "from hesitation to vaccination."

Many parents are skeptical about getting their children vaccinated, and health leaders educated doctors and nurses about better ways to answer questions related to vaccinations.  They stress vaccinations are the best way to avoid preventable diseases.

"A significant portion is concerned about vaccines. What they need to do is discuss the vaccines and their fears and concerns with their provider so were sure their getting up to date correct information. There is a lot of misinformation about vaccines out there and we feel when they've heard the pros and cons and the correct information they will choose to do the right thing for their child and get them immunized," said David Freeman, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Children's Hospital of Georgia.

Tuesday's event was sponsored by the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Phoebe Putney's Network of trust and the Georgia Department of Public Health.
