LAKELAND, GA (WALB) -

The Lakeland Police Department is looking for a new police chief.

Chief Jeff Harrison resigned Friday after nearly three years in the position. City officials say he's taking a higher paying job in North Dakota. City leaders hired Darrell Watson as the interim chief while the city begins the application process.

"He came in and turned the police department around and did a great job. I was very proud of him. But I understand, police do not make that much money, so I understand if there are other jobs available that they can go to," said Tony Giddens, Lakeland Mayor Pro Tem.

All applications must be in by June 15th. For more information on applying for the position call 229-482-3100.
