Decatur Co. BOE reduces furlough days

One south Georgia superintendent says his school system is finally moving in the right direction financially.

The Decatur County Board of Education unanimously voted to reduce the number of furlough days from six to five.

Superintendent Dr. Fred Rayfield says with rising health care costs and other financial obligations, it feels good be able to give back a day of pay.

"We ended on a positive note with our accomplishments and being able to stabilize some of the cuts we've been under for the past five or six years. So overall a very positive end to the year."

The board also promoted current Bainbridge High School Assistant Principal John Wooden to principal at Bainbridge Middle.
