(RNN) - After an estimated 26 tornadoes hit five states Sunday and a massive tornado leveled Moore, OK, killing 24, Monday - more severe weather is expected Tuesday afternoon.

Areas in the line of fire are central and northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, northwest Louisiana and southeast Oklahoma.

According to the National Weather Service, the probability of a tornado watch being issued is 95 percent.

Severe storms are also possible from south central Texas in the mid-Mississippi Valley.

Across parts of southeast Oklahoma into central and northeast Texas, the NWS said thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front by the midday.

"The NWS storm prediction center in Norman, OK, is forecasting the development of a few strong tornadoes ... and scattered to widespread damaging winds/large hail over parts of the southern plains and Arklatex this afternoon and tonight," according to a news release.

During the evening hours, Louisiana and Arkansas can expect the same storm system that could be capable of producing large-damaging hail, strong winds and tornadoes.

A squall line is expected in these storms as they approach Louisiana and Arkansas, increasing the threat of strong damaging winds in the evening hours.

Within seconds, a tornado can cause fatalities and devastate a neighborhood. It's important to be well prepared before one hits.

Learn about any tornado warning system in your county or locality. Many tornado-prone areas have a siren system. Know how to distinguish between the siren's warnings for a tornado watch and a tornado warning.

A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions favor the formation of tornadoes, for example, during a severe thunderstorm.

During a tornado watch, stay tuned to local radio and TV stations or a National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration weather radio for further information.

Watch the weather and be prepared to take shelter immediately if conditions worsen.

A tornado warning is issued when a tornado funnel is sighted or indicated by weather radar.

If a warning is issued, take shelter immediately.

Because tornadoes often accompany thunderstorms, pay close attention to changing weather conditions when there is a severe thunderstorm watch or warning.

A severe thunderstorm watch means severe thunderstorms are possible in your area. A severe thunderstorm warning means severe thunderstorms are occurring in your area.
