Red Cross helps with Oklahoma disaster relief

Posted: Updated:

The American Red Cross is working with Oklahoma officials and have been all night to help clean up the devastation and ensure victims of these monstrous tornadoes get the help they need.

They're also in other states damaged from the storms and continue response following last week's tornadoes in Texas.

In a statement from the Red Cross about these deadly storms, they said they sent more than 25 emergency response vehicles at first light Tuesday morning to Oklahoma and they're setting up kitchens trailers to feed everyone, but they can't do all of that without support.

The Red Cross holds blood drives, CPR classes and says there are many ways for folks to lend a hand throughout the year but now, for disasters like this, the organization says the best way to help is through donations.

Those funds are how they are helping provide shelter, food, distributing relief items and clean-up supplies for victims after the deadly storm and support first responders.

To help out the American Red Cross Disaster Relief, donations can be made through their smart phone apps, visiting redcross.org, dialing 1-800-REDCROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Another way the organization is helping is through their website and Tornado App for smart phones, where victims can register on a "safe and well" list to let loved ones know they're okay.

In the statement, The Red Cross also urges everyone to get prepared now in case severe weather and tornadoes threaten their community.
