No county money for NYSP

Dougherty County Commissioners unanimously denied a $15,000 for the National Youth Sports Program during Monday's Commission meeting.

Robert Skinner, the NYSP director, outlined the program's services, which includes a drug abuse education program, math and reading programs, and physical activities for youths between the ages of 9-15.

Skinner asked for any amount of funding as the commission reviewed the funding request.

The NYSP was federally funded until 2003, but the program increasingly turned to city, county and private funding over the years.
