Albany Chamber celebrates small business week

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

When times are tough, small businesses usually take the hardest hit but when things start looking up, they're often the quickest to recover.

That's exactly what the Albany Chamber of Commerce says they've been seeing recently in the area.

"Was a good indication of the success, you know, that our small businesses have had over the last couple of years, but it's still going to take some time to rebound," said Chris Hardy, President and CEO of Albany area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau.

To continue the climb, they're using a series of Lunch and Learns during National Small Business Appreciation week to make it easier for them to bounce back, by encouraging all small businesses to participate and gather the right tools.

They hope to give anything they can to help them increase revenue and decrease costs for promotion.

"Small business, they depend on that customer base. You know, when people start spending money again, small business starts to rebound and when small business start to rebound, that's when your manufactures start to rebound," said Hardy.

Tuesday's lunch will be about teaching business services offered by the Department of Labor.

Then Wednesday they'll explain employment Law and tips on how to be their own human resource department.

Thursday's lunch will showcase web strategy and tools for them to learn how to use free web access to market their own business.

"We don't pretend to be the experts on small business," said Hardy. "We don't pretend to have all the answers, but what we do have is resources that we can use and offer to small businesses to help them be more successful."

All because they say small business is not only important to Albany, but to South Georgia and is the cornerstone for the whole country's economy.
