LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia girl is asking the community for help to provide scholarships for college-bound young women.

In February, Madison Daughtry was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Leesburg for the Class of 2014.

The Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that emphasizes on education and encourages personal development.

Madison and 19 other girls from other counties across the state will go to Atlanta in July to compete in the state championship. If Madison is chosen, she will represent Georgia at the national competition next summer.

"You got to work hard. You have to work hard with your grades because that is a huge part of it. You got to be dedicated and know that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. It's not a beauty pageant. It has nothing to do with looks at all. It's your overall personality," said Madison Daughtry.

Madison will play Whitewater Chopped Sticks by Calvin Jones at the state program in July. The Distinguished Young Women program awarded Madison a 2 year scholarship to Darton College. She plans to major in Physical Therapy.

If you would like to help in some way, you can email Madison's parents at erbie64@yahoo.com to make a tax deductible donation to the scholarship program.
