CRISP COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of people came out to Lake Blackshear Saturday to support law enforcement and the Crisp County Sheriff.

It was the first annual pigs in the park event, put on by the Georgia Narcotics Officer's Association, along with the Crisp County Sheriff's Department.

15 barbeque teams competed for several titles, in addition to two dozen vendors, and lots of entertainment. Organizers say turnout has been great, despite the rain.

"I think ticket sales will exceed well over 500 people today. And while I think that's an admirable showing for the first year, we hope to make it better next year," said Marty Zon, the Northern Vice President of the Georgia Narcotics Officer's Association.

The proceeds will go towards the Georgia Narcotics Officer's Association for training and a college scholarship they've started in Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson's name. He's been battling cancer. The fund will start taking applications June 1st from Georgia students who plan to major in criminology.  The first scholarship will be awarded in August.
