Westover grads receive special presentation during graduation

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It's graduation time for high schools in Dougherty County and students are ready to embark on their next journey.

230 graduates received their high school diplomas from Westover Comprehensive High School Saturday morning. This year the school had 54 honor students. Altogether, the Westover grads received over 1 million dollars in scholarships. Many say they're sad their high school experience is over but they're glad to have graduated from Westover High.

"This day feels amazing. I'm sure my other classmates feel the same way. We waited so long for this one day to come and now that's it here, it's just a blessing to even be standing here and I'm so excited," said T'asia McCartherens.

"Moving here in the 11th grade and coming here to completely new people was just so unreal, cause they made me feel like I was here from kindergarten on up. It's like nothing I've ever experienced," said Brianna Keene.

Brianna signed a 6-year contract with the Army. She and nine other students were surprised with a special presentation by our own Karla Heath-Sands. Karla recognized 10 Westover High students that enlisted into the military. This is the first time the school has made this type of presentation.
