MCLB makes preparation for potential furloughs

Furloughs for Marine Corps Logistics Base workers could start in less than two months.

About 2,000 workers at the Albany base will have to take up to 11 unpaid days off in the next fiscal year that starts in July as part of the sequester budget cuts.

The Marine Corps is still working on a list of critical service providers that will not have to take the furlough days.

"It's going to affect approximately 2,000 employees here aboard the installation.  There is also going to be emergency personnel of different types and other critical personnel that may be exempt from it, however that list has not been finalized," said Captain Joe Thomas.

The furlough program is slated to begin July 8th. Base officials say they're doing all they can to keep employees informed and to prepare them for the furloughs.
