GRADY COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A massive south Georgia lake project, more than 60-years in the making, is now one step closer to completion.

Seven qualified contractors have until June 14th to submit bids for Grady County's Tired Creek Lake Project.

Funding issues and litigation prevented the lake's construction until recently, but Grady County Attorney Kevin Cauley say things are now moving in the right direction.

"We've been planning for this for quite some time now and we've actually had permit in hand for almost three years. During that time there has been a lot of engineering and again a lot of planning, but not a lot of construction. But that table is about to turn and we are really excited about seeing that moved forward."

Once construction is underway, engineers estimate the dam will take 18 months to complete.
