ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Twelve years after he was supposed to graduate, an Albany man will finally walk across the stage and get his high school diploma Saturday.

31 year old Latreal McDaniel attended graduation practice today with the 2013 Dougherty High School seniors.

In 2001, McDaniel was denied his diploma when school officials said he was a half credit short. After years of appeals, then Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree found McDaniel had enough credit hours to receive a diploma but would not allow him to walk in graduation. After more appeals, McDaniel will get to take part in commencement.

"First of all, for myself and my kids," said McDaniel.  "They and my family. This was something that I earned that they didn't get a chance to see. So I'm hoping everybody shows up and this can be a success."

McDaniel will receive his diploma with the rest of the Dougherty High Trojan graduates Saturday at two at the Civic Center.
