Albany bar owner wins fight with the city

A troubled Albany bar may soon be able to start selling alcohol again.

We confirmed Thursday night that the owner of Big Daddy's Lounge won his suit against the city.

In January city commissioners refused to renew the bar's alcohol license after police testified about repeated problems, overcrowding, and dangerous conditions at the club.

At a March court hearing, owner Gilbert Udoto said the decision was based on violations he was never notified about, and his lawyer claimed the city didn't follow proper procedures in taking away the license.

Thursday afternoon, Superior Court Judge Willie Lockette ruled in Udoto's favor. Thursday night, City Attorney Nathan Davis told WALB News 10 that he hasn't had time to read the ruling in depth. He's not sure if it means Big Daddy's will automatically or immediately get its license back.
