Albany-Dougherty EDC backs Phoebe merger

The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission is now on record supporting the hospital merger.

EDC President Ted Clem says the local economy heavily depends on Phoebe.

It's the second largest employer in the county and a blow to the hospitals' operations could be damaging.

"The threat is obviously there that we could lose a significant number of jobs, up to 600 jobs, and the loss of a healthcare facility which would not be favorable to the community as well," said EDC President Ted Clem.

The EDC will write a letter to FTC officials hoping they will drop their opposition to the merger.
