Thomas Co. bank robber may have used fake gun

Investigators say the suspected serial armed robber, who died in a Thomasville hospital Saturday following a crash, may have used a fake gun in her last robbery.

54-year old Mary Daniels of Albany died from injuries she sustained in a wreck as she tried to speed away from police Friday afternoon.

Police say Daniels robbed the Bank of Pavo just before the crash, but the gun recovered at the crash site is a fake.

"The person who was shown the weapon said the weapon was real. It looked real, she thought it was real, she believed it was real and her life was in danger. Whether it was real or fake, at that time, it was real. It was an armed robbery," said Captain Steve Jones.

Police say Daniels also tried to rob the Carroll Hill Liquor Store in Thomasville Friday.

The clerk fought off Daniels and took her first gun which police say was real.

She's also suspected in several other robberies over the last few months.
