Coleman Butler signs with Gordon College
A total 9 seniors will depart from the Deerfield Windsor baseball team after their final run in the state tournament set to continue later on this week but today at least one took some time out to take care of some more business.
Knights' pitcher Coleman Butler signed on to play his college ball at Gordon on Tuesday. The right hander topped out around 88 miles per hour this season. Coaches say his big frame and velocity projects to a ton of potential at the next level.
He also has some power at the plate hitting 3 homers and batting just under .300 this year. Butler says the recruiting process wasn't as difficult for him after just a couple visits.
"Gordon was the first place I went to and then we went and looked at Middle Georgia and they just didn't have to right field. So I went back and looked at Gordon and kind of made my decision that was the place I needed to be," said Butler.
Butler and the Knights play at Westfield in the GISA AAA state quarterfinals on Friday.
Kahler Fletcher signs with Emmanuel College
In Americus, Lady Panthers basketball guard Kahler Fletcher will be draining 3s up at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
Fletcher was known as an assassin from behind the three point line. She nailed 6 three pointers in a single game, that's tied for the school record at Americus Sumter.
She finished second on the team in scoring this past year, first in free throw shooting prompting several colleges to go after her for that signature but Emmanuel and their head coach Mike Bona was able to close the deal on Fletcher.
"I had a lot of offers and a lot of tryouts and stuff and every time I went there, I went to this one, he just made everything so much easier and relieved everything and made it comfortable. Then the girls, I practiced with them and they made it feel like it was home," said Fletcher.
Fletcher spent the last two years at Americus-Sumter after a couple at Westover.
