TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Tifton police continue to search for suspects in a shooting that happened late Monday night on South Park Avenue where several people fired guns.

One bullet hit 31-year-old Damaian Louis Brantley in the chest.

Police say Brantley had gotten into an argument with one of his neighbors, and after a short period of time the neighbor returned with a gun.

38-year-old Victor James Smith, otherwise known as Horse, has been arrested on an aggravated assault charge.

But witness accounts and the discovery of multiple shell casings, have lead authorities to believe another shooter could be on the loose.

Bullets flew down an alleyway around 10 O-clock last night, leaving one man wounded.

The victim, Damaian Louis Brantley, crawled into his nearby home at 1112 South Park Avenue, where he was found by police.

Investigators discovered 9-millimeter and 40-caliber casings, leading them to believe there were at least two shooters.

"Investigators have made one arrest in the case.  There's a possibility there may be other arrests forthcoming, upon identification of others involved.  But as for now, we do have one person in custody charged with aggravated assault," said Lt. Lee Dunston, Tifton Police Department.

The shooting is just the latest episode in what neighbors describe as deteriorating conditions in the area.

One woman who didn't want to appear on camera says she's scared to leave her house.

"When my children were growing up they were free to roam outside the neighborhood.  You couldn't ask for a nicer neighborhood.  But, like I said, now I'm almost afraid to sit on my porch," said one neighbor.

Neighbors say the alley and the nearby park have become notorious for shady activity.

"You see them all the time, all sorts of people going up and down the alley.  I've seen people right there in the park do transactions.  You know, you know what's going on, a lot of prostitutes," Stated the same neighbor.

She says police presence has helped some, but she hopes to see more from law enforcement.

Tifton Police say they need resident's help to fight crime.

"The biggest thing is the citizens need to know that we need that cooperation.  We need that agreement between the police department and the citizens.  You know, we can't be everywhere," said Lt. Lee Dunston.

Dunston says some officers were in the area when the shooting occurred, and were on scene within seconds.

Detectives investigating the shooting say they may have some ideas about the identities of the other suspects.

Officers urge anyone with any information to contact the Tifton Police Department.
