Dougherty Co. school board cuts transportation positions to save money

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County school board members voted to eliminate a couple of transportation positions to save the school system nearly $100,000 a year, Monday night.

They decided to cut two zone manager positions.

The transportation department will now only have two operations managers.

The move will save the school system $89,000 in salaries, not counting benefits.

"The bottom line with the transportation department is that is has to be streamlined, more efficient and cost effective, more quality and productivity of getting the students to and from school. That's the ultimate bottom line as far as I'm concerned," said Interim Superintendent Dr. David Mosely.

The board also approved buying five new buses for the upcoming school year.
