Family and friends gathered to remember a fallen hero

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

This afternoon the Dougherty County Police Department honored their only fallen officer, unveiling a plaque to him.

The widow and family of Lt. Cliff Rouse unveiled the plaque on the front of the Dougherty County Police Department this afternoon.

Dozens of officers from law enforcement agencies across South Georgia were there to honor their fallen comrade.

Lt. Rouse was shot and killed when chasing an armed robbery suspect on Sylvester Road on December 23rd, 2010.

The plaque for Rouse was placed right by the front door, to honor and remember his service and sacrifice.

"This memorial plaque is just another tribute that they have come together to do in his honor.  And it's just a humbling, wonderful memory of our son," said Jackie Rouse, the mother of Lt. Rouse.

"I believe people will see him coming in and he's watching them as they go out.  And I think he will watch over his officers going out," said Don Cheek, former Dougherty County Police Chief.

Lt. Cliff Rouse was called a true hero and a top cop in every way today, as a plaque to honor him is now mounted in the front of the Dougherty County Police Department headquarters.
