ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Information from the Dougherty County School System-

Dougherty County elementary schools are set to receive the gift of improved health safety on their campuses.

The 17 schools will each be presented with brand new automated external defibrillators (AEDs), provided by a Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Grant.

A presentation will take place today in the Wetherbee Lobby of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The devices will be placed in each of the Dougherty County elementary schools to help schools be prepared to provide life-saving assistance if a student, staff member or visitor goes into cardiac arrest.

"We know how important it is for the teachers, principals and administrators to make sure that the students and staff in our schools are always safe," said Angie Barber, director of Phoebe's Network of Trust. "These AEDs represent the care that comes from community partnerships, such as the partnership between the Dougherty County School System, Firehouse Subs and Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital."

The grant was announced at a ceremony in February at the local Firehouse Subs Restaurant. Representatives from Phoebe, The Dougherty County School System and Firehouse Subs are expected to attend the presentation.
