Thomasville robbery suspect dies in hospital

Posted: Updated:
THOMAS COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A woman suspected in a series of armed robberies has died in the hospital.

Georgia State Patrol officials say 54 year-old Mary Daniels, of Albany died Saturday around 9am at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.

Law enforcers initially told us the woman died when her car overturned off Highway 188 at the Ocklocknee River near Coolidge. They later backed off that statement.

Officers from several agencies were chasing the woman after they say she robbed the Bank of Pavo. Before that, they say she tried to rob Carroll Hill Package Shop in Thomasville, but the clerk fought back. At the crash site they found money from the Pavo bank robbery, a gun and clothes matching what the bank robber wore.

From Friday:

The female armed robber police think was disarmed by a store clerk earlier today in Thomasville then went to Pavo and robbed the bank there, authorities believe.

Then police believe she fled to the Coolidge area, where police tried to stop her.

She flew down Highway 188, lost control of her car, and crashed into a canal, where her car went off the road and into the water before officers could get to her.

We are told that they recovered a gun from the car, and that money taken in the robbery was strewn into the water in the canal.

WALB's Stephen Abel is following this case, and will have a report later this evening from Thomas County.
