DCSS hosts final meeting regarding school closures

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County School System wrapped up a series of 9 meetings at schools that will take on extra students when three schools close next school year.

Parents and students gathered at Radium Springs Elementary to ask questions about the changes, Thursday night.

In March, School board members voted to close Sylvester Road Elementary and Dougherty Middle and re-purpose Magnolia Elementary and relocated students to other schools throughout the system.

School officials are still looking into what to do with the two empty school buildings.

"Right now everything is an option on the table. Demolition is not slated for either one right now. That's not been discussed, even though it is an option. We plan to use both buildings for something meaningful and I think that will come to fruition in due time," said DCSS Finance Director Kenneth Dyer.

Parents who didn't make it to one of the meetings still have the chance to attend open houses and registration for relocated students in July.
