THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

For the first time in more than 20 years, Southwest Georgia is home to a Veterinary Technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Southwest Georgia Technical College's Vet Tech program recently earned the distinction.

It makes graduates eligible for the Veterinary Technician National Exam and allows them to perform procedures they otherwise would not be certified for.

"Dentistry, radiology, surgical assistance, and a lot of performing physical exams on animals. It really benefits the veterinarian in that it gives him another hand," said Program Director Dr. Bo Curles.

Registration is still open for Southwest Georgia Tech's Summer Semester which begins May 20th.
