EDISON, GA (WALB) -

Classes will be back in session Thursday at Pataula Charter Academy in Edison where grief counselors were available today following a deadly bus crash.

Jordan Doughtie, a 4th grader at PCA, was killed when her school bus ran off the road yesterday afternoon in Clay County. Six other students and the bus driver were hurt.

While the investigation into what caused the crash continues, the school is focused on helping those who knew the young victim grieve. Heavy hearts and a flag at half staff. There were no classes at Pataula Charter Academy Wednesday following the school bus crash that killed a student.

Still, many showed up. "There's a hurricane of emotions going on inside each one of us. But our biggest concern right now is for the kids and the well being of the staff here at the school," said grief counselor Ben Dismukes. Local pastor and PCA parent Ben Dismukes was one of a dozen grief counselors on hand a day after 10-year-old Jordyn Doughtie was killed when a PCA school bus crashed on Highway 39 in Clay County.

"Immediately you want to start asking all the questions like 'why did this happen?' And what I'm telling the kids, and I think what many of us are telling the kids is there will be time for getting answers and there are many questions we won't have answers to," said Dismukes.

While the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Reconstruction Team continues its investigation into the cause of the crash, school officials say two students injured yesterday remain hospitalized. Six others including the bus driver were treated and released. But the loss of a young student in this tight knit school of 300 K-8th graders, which has rallied together to keep its doors open, is coming together yet again, to remember a bright eyed girl named Jordyn taken too soon.

"We've been through a lot just getting this school established. It really kind of served to bind us together as a family. And obviously when you go through something like this it just intensifies the relationship that's already there," said Dismukes.

A small school dealing with a big loss. A hard lesson for kids mourning the loss a young classmate. The Georgia State Patrol says bus driver Mike Tier was going around a curve when he lost control of the bus.

The Motor Carriers Compliance Division was called in to determine if a mechanical malfunction caused the crash. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is working to determine charges should be filed against Tier.
