Still no takers for vacant Albany industrial sites

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Economic Development officials continue to market two massive industrial properties in Dougherty county.

Demolition continues on the old Merck plant on Radium Springs Road after no new tenant was found. The EDC hopes another industry will build on the site after demolition is done in September.

Much of the old Cooper Tire plant is gone. Cooper still uses part of what's left for distribution, and the rest is available for new companies.

EDC President Ted Clem says they have prospects looking for big spaces. "Because we have a lot of available space we get a lot of looks from companies that need buildings, and what we find is a lot of prospects are looking for available buildings. In one way that's a bit of a positive because it increases our prospect activity," Clem said.

Both spaces are being marketed to prospects by the EDC and their current owners.

A former MacGregor building on Slappey Boulevard that sat empty for years is now the site of a flea market. Clem said the EDC had nothing to do with that.
