Sumter inmate back in custody

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Sumter County authorities confirm the inmate that escaped from a work detail yesterday is now back in custody.

22-year-old Justin Ward was found this morning under a bridge on Highway 280.

Authorities used a helicopter to find the inmate who walked off a work detail near Bob Dodson Road around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff Pete Smith says 22-year old Justin Ward from Carroll County was serving a burglary conviction at the Sumter County Correctional Institute.
