TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The stars were out in Tifton hoping to raise money to help find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.

Dancing Stars of South Georgia made it's debut in Tifton through the Alzheimer's Association and several sponsors. The event featured folks from areas all over South Georgia and the duo's competed to raise money for the disease.

Attendees were able to cast votes for their favorite dancers, each vote equaling a dollar donation. Ginger Nelson raised the most money. Dancers say the experience has been priceless, and worth the preparation.

"I appreciate dance more now and it's for and Alzheimer's Association. It's such a good thing that everyone is doing the money that was earned here it's just great.  I lost a little bit of weight, I learned some dance moves and we raised some money, hey I can't complain," said Daryl Salter a participant.

The event raised more than $72,000. Miss Georgia 2012 Leighton Jordan served as one of the judges for the event.  Our own Karla Heath-Sand was one of the hosts for the event.
