More details released on shooting in Tift Regional parking lot
TIFTON, GA (WALB) -
A woman is recovering from a gunshot wound to the hand and a man is in jail, Friday night, after a wild scene outside Tift Regional Hospital.
US Marshals Task Force Officers fired at the pair as they tried to run over the federal agents with their car.
That woman is being charged two counts of aggravated assault of an officer.
Those two officers sustained injuries as a result of being hit by the car.
According to agents, the man involved in this case was wanted in connection for a shooting at a Chevron station in Tift County last week.
Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarborough told us the woman who was behind the wheel had surgery on her injured hand and the man was taken into custody.
We are still waiting to hear back from GBI agents to learn the names of the suspects and the injuries of the officers.
We talked to two witnesses on the scene. They were just feet from the where all of this occurred.
"My niece was walking across from there to me. I was out here smoking a cigarette and I was watching her walk across and that's when the bullets started flying," said Barbara Raby.
"My sister was walking across when the shots were fired behind her. Then I saw a black SUV facing this way and it backed over the officers. That's when one was shot and a black female was shot," said Melissa Holt.
Tift Regional Officials stress the shooting did not involve their patients or staff members.
The hospital was put locked down for a little more than an hour. It was lifted about 4:30 pm.
