ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A day after announcing his bid for U.S. Senate, District 1 Congressman Jack Kingston made a stop in Albany this morning.

At a press conference outside the Albany Museum of Art, Kingston he discussed important matters such as spending, defense, and agriculture weigh heavily on the Senate.

He feels his 20 plus years in the house gives him the experience he needs.

He's worked closely with retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss in Washington and says to fill his seat he'll focus on the issues and his experience during the campaign.

"I've worked closely with agriculture, military, and business. I bring a business background to this race which is very important. I think focusing on those in terms of strong defense, strong economy, balancing the budget - we're going to be able to win the race," said Kingston.

"There is only about 16% of the funding in the farm bill that goes to production and agriculture, the rest goes to other programs so that's the part that's weighing down the farm bill I think if we separated it and there is discussion to do that I think we could get a farm bill passed next week," said Kingston.

He's worked closely with retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss and says his 20 plus years in the House give the experience needed to replace Chambliss.

He made stops in Macon and Augusta.  GOP Congressmen Paul Broun and Phil Gingrey have already kicked off their campaigns.
