ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Technical College design students presented some new animal exhibit plans to Chehaw's zoo director Thursday.

The presentation is part of an effort for Chehaw to incorporate the community in plans for the future. The experience gives students real world experience while helping Chehaw during its accreditation process.

The zoo director gave students GPS points of open space north of the zoo that could be developed and asked them to design exhibits with co-habitation between unlikely animals.

"It's a great level of partnership in the community. And I'd say that's the kind of stuff that's cool about Albany," said Kevin Hils, Parks at Chehaw Zoo Director. "One of the things people say is 'albany's a tight, small community, how do you get stuff done?' Well, one of the beauties of it is by being a tight community we can dome some things a little bit differently."

Hils was impressed by one exhibit which would allow bears, bison, and elk to live in the same holding pen safely.

The school has worked with the zoo before and encourages students to use their designs for their personal portfolios.
