ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Kids learned valuable lessons while planting a garden at a nursing home, Tuesday afternoon.

The East Albany Boys and Girls club partnered with the Southwest Georgia Project to plant vegetables outside of the Pines Personal Care Nursing Home on Martin Luther King Drive.

The project shows young members where their food comes from and how to eat healthy.

It also allows them to interact with good, older role models.

"It gets them understanding the connections between the younger generation and the older generation and we think that the mentorship that they'll have here at the nursing home will be good for the boys as they grow up," said Daaiyah Salaam with the Southwest Georgia Project.

When the vegetables are ready to pick, Boys and Girls Club members will harvest them and prepare a meal with the nursing home residents.
