More than 20 guns stolen from Norman Park home

Pawn shop owners are asked to keep an eye out for stolen guns after thieves swiped a Norman Park man's entire collection, more than 20 guns, in a daytime burglary at his home on Earnest Norman Road.

It's a serious crime problem in South Georgia.

One South Georgia Pawn shop owner told us most pawn shops work closely with investigators.

He says they follow several security checks to try to make sure they don't buy stolen guns, but some guns get through the cracks.

He says that can cost the buyer money if authorities do seize the guns.

"The risk that retail stores or used merchandise stores have is that if they do mistakenly buy stolen merchandise and thankfully if it is recovered by the police department then that's just a lost they have to absorb," said Georgia Gun and Loan Owner Steven Drew.

Drew says he takes photo ID's from gun sellers and checks serial numbers on guns, but those checks aren't instant.

It could be a while before pawn shop owners find out guns have been stolen.

If you know anything about that Norman Park gun heist, you're asked to Call the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office.
