TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Growing good grass doesn't just make your lawn look nice, it's big business in Georgia. Tuesday, Tifton hosted the 67th annual Southeastern Turfgrass Conference.

The conference, Organized by UGA's Coastal Plains Experiment Station, focused on everything from fighting nematodes to fertilizer and water conservation. Agriculture professionals weren't the only ones there. Anyone looking for ways to improve their lawn was welcome.

"If you can picture the most beautiful lawn without the shrubs that go around your house, it would just not match at all. So having Dr. Dirr here and other ornamental developers and also managers just kind of completes the pictures and helps us get a more complete program," said Brian Schwartz, University of Georgia Turfgrass Breeder.

The conference also showed off new ornamental breeds of plants.

Organizers said drought resistant breeds of grass have become more attractive in recent years to help with water shortages.
