Original Story (4/29):

The family of a Baker County man is planning his funeral after he was shot and killed Sunday night.  The suspected triggerman is behind bars.  And those who witnessed the shooting, say it was the result of an argument that got out of control.

Michael Backey is brought to tears thinking about his brother, 43 year-old Charlie Backey, who was shot and killed Sunday night, just before 8pm outside his Baker County home off Milton Miller Road.

"He's a hard worker. He laid bricks for a living. He just wanted to become the man he was suppose to be, especially after our momma had passed. To have his life taken about a purse, it's just worthless, it's meaningless," said Backey.

Sheriff's officials say 33 year-old Walter Shiloh is the suspected triggerman. They say an argument led to the shooting.

Charlie Backey's girlfriend, Sharon Eafford says he was shot in this yard, outside their home after the two men started fighting over a misplaced wallet that belonged to her sister and Shiloh's girlfriend. Then Eafford immediately took him to the hospital in Miller County.

"I wasn't thinking at the time. I didn't even know he was going to die. I thought he was going to be alright," said Eafford.

Michael Backey says his brother gave him a thumbs up before he was air lifted to Tallahassee Memorial hospital.  "When I seen him move on the gurney I actually said to myself, hey, the guy's like me he's tough guy, he's going to make it. I guess that thumbs up may have been a bye, I don't know."

Backey was pronounced dead at TMH.

"I'm going to miss him period.  Because he didn't everything for us," said Eafford.

"I wasn't going to believe he was dead because I know how Charlie is, he's a strong guy. But when my oldest brother come back and said it was him. We're going to grieve because we love Charlie and Charlie was a loveable guy. But we're going to make it. We're going to make it by God's grace and mercy we're going to make it," said Backey.

Now his family will wait for justice as they prepare to lay to rest a man they remember as a peaceful family man.

Walter Shiloh is currently in the Miller County jail. He has not been formally charged.

The autopsy for Charlie Backey is scheduled for Wednesday.
