ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Parents showed up at Albany Middle Schools Monday night to discuss a range of topics concerning school realignment due to the recent decision to close three schools in Dougherty County next school year.

Last Month, the school board voted to close Sylvester Road Elementary and Dougherty Middle Schools and Repurpose Magnolia Elementary.

One parent we spoke with says she's optimistic about the transition for her son who would have attended Dougherty Middle but will now attend Albany Middle, though she's disappointed the schools are closing. Rhonda Anderson said, "It's different because we were expecting him to go to Dougherty Middle school because we all went to Dougherty Middle school and High School, so it was disappointing for that to close for us."

There will be another discussion meeting Tuesday night at Radium Springs Middle starting at 6:30 as the system's series of school meetings on the topic continues.
