Albany Tech gives scholarships to create safer drivers
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Scholarships handed out Monday afternoon will help put safer, teen drivers on the road.
Albany Technical College's Driver's Education program announced ten winners of the "Celebrate My Drive" essay contest. Each winning student gets $250 to pay for a driver's education course at the school.
The course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of supervised training on the road. Albany Tech Vice President of Business Solutions Matt Trice said, "It also helps out mom and dad too because most insurance companies offer discounts on rates for students who complete the driver education courses."
The scholarships were funded through a $2500 grant State Farm Insurance gave to Albany Tech to try to prevent teen crashes and save lives.
