DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Dougherty County police are investigating the third church burglary in two weeks the east portion of the county.

Leaders at Albany Baptist Church found the break-in Friday.

They're not sure when the burglary occurred.

Someone forced open a door in the rear of the sanctuary in the 3000 block of Sylvester Road.

$15 in rolled coins and a check book were taken, but the burglar did hundreds of dollars in damage to the church forcing open four doors.

Church officer Bobby Robinson said "Property can be replaced but people are going to get hurt, unfortunately. I even pray for those who broke in, because the fact they put their lives in danger, besides the police officers."

The Berean Freewill Baptist Church on Branch Road and the Antioch Baptist Church on Moultrie Road were also burglarized in the last two weeks.

Dougherty County Police are investigating to see if the burglaries are connected, and are asking anyone with information to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
