South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta is offering free skin cancer examinations to the public.
Skin caner is the most common form of cancers, accounting for nearly half of all cancers in the U-S. Starting Thursday, dermatologists will conduct free screenings at SGMC's Pearlman Cancer Center. The screenings are open to everyone and will be held every Thursday in May. Dermatologists warn that people living in the south are more susceptible to skin cancer.
"Skin cancer in most cases, basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma are related to ultra violent exposure. So the closer you get to the equator the higher incidents you're going to have with the population," said dermatologist Dr. William Howard.
